Sabrina & the City| First 4th of July In NYC

This was the first Fourth of July that I’ve spent without my overcooking, loud family. I missed them. The night before the Fourth we would’ve been prepping for the next day. My dad would’ve had me cleaning the grill racks for his untouchable smoked ribs. My mom would’ve had me running to the grocery store a million times for different items needed to get the side dishes started. Everything from macaroni and cheese to potato salad would’ve been on the menu. My mom’s potato salad is my grandma’s favorite.

The day of the Fourth would’ve been a gorgeous day in our backyard with the swing and the music. Frankie Beverly featuring Maze is our go-to for the tunes for the BBQ.

But this year, I was in NYC without that love. Instead my roommate and I navigated our way to the South Street Seaport to watch the Macy’s fireworks. I wasn’t in the best mood, but my roommate’s cheerful persona kept me from falling into a slump. The day was gorgeous. As soon as we got into the city the sun was out, which we were afraid wasn’t going to make an appearance this weekend. We actually found our way to the seapoIMG_1794rt without losing our sense of direction or our minds, lol! We got there pretty early and got our spots.

The skyline was like nothing you’ve ever seen from that side of the BK bridge. After waiting a couple of hours, the show started at 9:30. It was so worth it. From a boat in the East River, the fireworks blew our minds.

From smiley faces to what looked like galaxies, I was amazed like I was six years old again. The fireworks were the highlight of our day! IMG_1800

Sabrina & the City|1st Week in New York

What have you fallen in love with as soon as you saw it? Smelled it? Walked the sidewalk of it? For me, it was love at first sight for New York, its boroughs and I.

For the next seven weeks, I’ve been given the pleasure of being an Editorial Intern at Good Housekeeping magazine at Hearst Corporation.

My first week as an intern wasn’t very eventful, but I was happy just to be at a major magazine corporation. I had this goal set for myself years ago, and now it’s finally happening. A quote by Denzel Washington that I’ve come to live by is “Dreams without goals are just dreams, and often lead to disappointment”.

Instead of living directly in the city, I’m bunking in New Jersey. The commute was hectic, but this southern girl figured it out. I’m interning specifically in the Home Department of GH. There was a photoshoot in Brooklyn, of course I can’t reveal any pictures. It was at the cutest three-story brownstone.  The editors shot the second floor, and it was only big enough for a couple. Just imagine seven people trying to shoot one little space. It was crazy! But, crazy in a way that I got to see how photoshoots operate and what it takes. It was a lot of lifting for me and my fellow interns. We packed and unpacked for three days. Again, it was crazy. I was so tired that I took an uber back to the city.

After my visit to Brooklyn, I was hooked. Brooklyn is BAE! So, I had to pay a visit to the bridge. IMG_1688

Also on that day, it was the 36th annual Mississippi Picnic in Central Park. I had to support my home state and check out the festivities. Central Park was gorgeous. I hadn’t had a chance to visit it during weekdays, so, this made for a great off day event. Guess what? There was watermelon and catfish. I felt right at home. IMG_1657

Follow my journey!

XOXO
